Anointing of the Sick is a Sacrament, elevated to frequent celebration for the support of fragile, sick people.
Because of this very special elevation during the Second Vatican Council, it may be celebrated / received as often as needed, just as Communion and Reconciliation are received and celebrated. Below is a video explaining this Sacrament.
The Sacrament of Anointing of the Sick may be received before the patient enters the hospital.
The patient may make an appointment with their parish priest at any time to receive this Sacrament, even at church after Mass.
Anointing of the Sick is celebrated when there is
Hope for Recovery or strength for the final journey.
Anytime Anointing is requested, it is scheduled and celebrated at the priest’s earliest convenience.
The patient must be
responsive. In the case of a non-responsive patient Ministry of Consolation prayers are celebrated by commissioned ministers.
