Last Rites as a final anointing no longer exist in the Catholic Church.
The “last rites” celebrated now vary in content and do not need the special support of an ordained Priest or the anointing of oil.
Prayers are said with the family or very ill person at this time. Any spontaneous prayer may be said by any one. Holy Spirit Catholic Church offers Ministry of Consolation support when death is near and at the time of death.
Ministers commissioned by the Dioceses will visit and pray prescribed prayers with the dying loved one and the family as often as the family want s prayers prayed.
Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist will visit the patient in the morning with Holy Communion or a Spiritual Communion if the family desires a Communion visit. If after several days the patient has shown sign of improvement, arrangements can be made for a scheduled Anointing of the Sick.
